This law allows three specific police officers in Deerfield to keep working until they turn 70 or retire, whichever happens first, as long as they remain mentally and physically fit for the job. To ensure they are still capable, the town can require annual medical checkups at its own expense, and the officers must continue meeting all standard training and certification rules. Additionally, the bill stops any further deductions from their pay after age 65 that would have been taken for retirement or pension purposes.
This bill allows the city of Quincy to hire retired firefighters as special firefighters to assist with emergency duties and fire details. To qualify, retired Quincy firefighters must have served as regular firefighters and retired due to age, and they must pass a medical exam at their own expense to prove they are fit for the work. Unlike regular firefighters, these special firefighters are not subject to the same maximum age limits and can continue receiving their retirement benefits without deductions after age 65.
