Senate, May 4, 2026 -- (Filed by Mr. Rodrigues) Order relative to procedures to be followed when considering the House Bill making appropriations for the fiscal year 2027 for the maintenance of the departments, boards, commissions, institutions, and certain activities of the Commonwealth, for interest, sinking fund, and serial bond requirements, and for certain permanent improvements.
This bill authorizes the town of Ashland to issue ten new licenses for establishments to sell alcohol for on-site consumption. The licenses are specifically designated for three development zones: three for the Downtown area, three for the Route 126 area, and four for the MBTA Zone. To qualify, businesses must operate within these designated districts and maintain good standing with state tax and unemployment departments. The town retains the power to set conditions for these licenses and can transfer them only within the original zoned areas. All new licenses must be issued within five years of the bill's effective date.
This bill changes Falmouth's local government structure by replacing the elected Town Clerk position with an appointed one.
