Treat and Reduce Obesity Act of 2025 This bill expands Medicare coverage of intensive behavioral therapy for obesity. Specifically, the bill allows coverage for therapy that is provided by (1) a physician who is not a primary care physician; or (2) other health care providers (e.g., physician assistants and nurse practitioners) and approved counseling programs, if provided upon a referral from, and in coordination with, a physician or primary care practitioner. Currently, such therapy is covered only if provided by a primary care practitioner. The bill also allows coverage under Medicare's prescription drug benefit of drugs used for the treatment of obesity or for weight loss management for individuals who are overweight.
Maddy summaryThe CONNECT for Health Act of 2025 expands Medicare telehealth coverage by removing geographic restrictions that limited where patients could receive care, expanding the types of health care providers who can offer telehealth services, and eliminating the requirement for an in-person visit before receiving telemental health services. The bill includes specific provisions to support telehealth use for Native American health facilities, rural health clinics, and Federally Qualified Health Centers. It requires the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to collect and publish data on telehealth usage and impacts, and to develop resources to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and limited English proficiency. Program integrity measures are added to monitor telehealth billing practices and prevent fraud while maintaining coverage for telehealth services during public health emergencies.
Maddy summaryHR 4192, the Military PFAS Transparency Act of 2025, requires the Department of Defense to publicly report on its cleanup efforts for PFAS (toxic chemicals used in firefighting foam) at military installations. It mandates annual reports to Congress detailing site-specific funding, progress, and delays in PFAS remediation, plus a public online dashboard showing site-by-site spending, timelines, and community contact points. The bill also requires a remediation acceleration strategy prioritizing sites based on health risks and environmental impact. This directly affects military installations with PFAS contamination and the surrounding communities relying on affected water sources. The law focuses solely on increasing transparency and accountability in existing cleanup efforts, not on new funding or policy changes.
Maddy summaryThis bill amends the Social Security Act to expand Medicare coverage for clinical social worker services. It removes the current restriction limiting these services to "the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses," allowing Medicare to cover a broader range of social worker services in healthcare settings. The change applies to services provided on or after December 1, 2025, directly affecting Medicare beneficiaries who receive social work services for non-mental health conditions. This policy adjustment aims to integrate social workers more fully into general healthcare coverage under Medicare.
Maddy summaryHRES 541 is a symbolic resolution supporting the designation of July 21, 2025, as "Guam Liberation Day" to commemorate the 1944 U.S. military liberation of Guam from Japanese occupation during World War II. It honors the 3-year occupation endured by the CHamoru people, the forced marches to Manenggon camp, and the U.S. forces who fought in the July 21, 1944, amphibious landing at Asan Bay. The resolution calls for the House to support this designation and encourages the President to issue a proclamation urging nationwide observance. It directly affects Guam’s cultural recognition and historical remembrance, not policy implementation. As a commemorative resolution, it has no binding effect but aims to symbolically honor this historical event.
Maddy summaryThe Financial Empowerment and Protection Act requires service providers like utilities, internet companies, landlords, and mortgage lenders to allow consenting adults living together to open joint accounts for managing their services and bills. Both adults must agree to the account, which must be in both names, and providers must share all account information and online access with both parties upon request. The bill also prohibits housing providers from charging fees for early lease termination when a tenant is a victim of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking. Individuals harmed by a provider’s failure to comply can seek up to $1,000 in damages per violation.
Maddy summaryHR 3538, the Wildlife Confiscations Network Act of 2025, establishes a national network to handle the care of live wildlife seized at U.S. borders due to illegal trafficking. It creates a coordinated system where Federal wildlife law enforcement (like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service) can partner with qualified facilities - including zoos, sanctuaries, and rehabilitation centers - to provide immediate care, maintain evidence integrity, and manage long-term placement for confiscated animals. The bill expands a successful Southern California pilot that already placed over 4,100 animals by creating a centralized database and single point of contact for law enforcement. It authorizes $5 million annually (2026-2030) to support this network, directly affecting border agencies and participating care facilities while addressing capacity gaps at ports of entry.
Maddy summaryHR 3886, the Veterans PTSD Screening Act, requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to study whether RNA sequencing can help diagnose PTSD-related symptoms like inflammation or cellular stress in veterans. The VA must conduct this research at five VA medical facilities within its Veterans Integrated Service Networks, starting within 120 days of the bill's enactment. The study will conclude on September 30, 2027, with a final report to Congress due by September 30, 2028, detailing the findings. This bill does not change current screening practices but mandates a specific research effort to evaluate a potential diagnostic tool.
Maddy summaryHR 4060, the Service Member Housing Relief Act, adjusts housing stipend rules for active-duty military personnel. It lowers the threshold requiring housing cost relief from 20% to 15% of a service member's income, meaning more members will qualify for extra housing assistance when their rent exceeds this lower percentage. The bill removes an outdated provision (subparagraph C) from the existing law governing these stipends. This change directly affects uniformed service members facing high housing costs, providing broader access to financial relief through a simplified calculation.
