Love Lives On Act of 2025

Love Lives On Act of 2025 This bill extends entitlement for various benefit programs and services for surviving spouses of deceased members of the Armed Forces or veterans. The bill provides that the remarriage of a surviving spouse must not bar the furnishing of dependency and indemnity compensation or special pension benefits to such spouse. Additionally, the Department of Defense may not terminate the payment of an annuity for a surviving spouse under the Survivor Benefit Plan solely because the surviving spouse remarries. The bill also expands the definition of a dependent under TRICARE to include a remarried widow or widower whose subsequent marriage has ended due to death, divorce, or annulment.

Protection and Advocacy for Student Success Act

Maddy summaryThis bill authorizes federal grants to establish a national education protection and advocacy program that supports organizations enforcing the rights of students with disabilities under key federal laws. The program would provide funding to existing protection and advocacy systems to monitor educational settings, advocate for safe conditions, and pursue legal remedies for violations of student rights. Grants would be distributed based on state populations with minimum amounts guaranteed for each state and territory, and recipients would not be required to provide matching funds. The legislation requires systems receiving funds to submit annual reports and use the grants to supplement rather than replace existing services.

ACPAC Modernization Act

Maddy summaryHR 5663, the ACPAC Modernization Act, amends the FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012 to add "ticket agents" as a required member category on the Aviation Consumer Protection Advisory Committee (ACPAC). This change directly affects ACPAC's composition by mandating that ticket agents be included among its members. The bill makes a technical, procedural update to the existing law without altering the committee's functions or creating new consumer protections. It focuses solely on specifying who must serve on the committee, not on changing airline consumer policies.

Muhammad Ali American Boxing Revival Act of 2026

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes new safety and medical requirements for "unified boxing organizations" (UBOs), which are boxing groups that manage title belts and rankings without separate sanctioning bodies. It directly affects UBOs and boxers under their contracts by mandating comprehensive medical screenings (including annual physicals, brain MRIs, and pregnancy tests for female boxers), requiring two ambulances and three physicians at ringside during matches, and providing boxers with mandatory health insurance covering $25,000 in injury costs. Key provisions include strict anti-doping testing protocols (with no cost to boxers), prohibitions on boxers betting on matches, and UBOs covering all medical expenses. The bill also requires UBOs to register publicly with the Federal Trade Commission and adhere to updated industry standards for boxer compensation and safety.

Fair Markets and Sports Integrity Act

Maddy summaryHR 7477, the Fair Markets and Sports Integrity Act, prohibits registered financial entities (like exchanges and brokers) from listing, facilitating, or clearing financial contracts based on sporting events or casino-style games. It bans contracts referencing outcomes of sports competitions (like professional or college games) or casino games (such as slots, blackjack, or poker). This directly affects financial market operators by restricting certain types of derivative products tied to sports and gambling. The law creates a clear ban on these specific financial instruments under the Commodity Exchange Act. It does not impact individual betting or gambling activities, only financial market transactions involving them.

State Department Disability Policy and Accommodations Act

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes a formal disability policy framework for the U.S. State Department, requiring the Secretary of State to develop and publish a comprehensive approach to advancing disability rights in U.S. diplomacy and foreign assistance. It creates an Office of International Disability Rights within the State Department, led by an Ambassador-at-Large appointed by the President, to coordinate global disability policy and track spending on related programs. The legislation mandates that all State Department facilities and websites meet accessibility standards, requires mandatory disability policy training for all personnel, and establishes a fellowship program to develop expertise among civil service and Foreign Service officers. Additionally, the bill requires annual reports to Congress detailing implementation progress, including data on funding, accessible facilities, and the effectiveness of disability-inclusive programming.

Save the World Cup Act

Maddy summaryThis bill prohibits the use of federal funds by the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice to conduct civil immigration enforcement activities within one mile of any 2026 FIFA World Cup match or Fan Festival. The restriction applies to all civil immigration enforcement actions under existing immigration laws, with limited exceptions for urgent situations such as imminent threats to life, national security, public safety, or the destruction of evidence. The legislation would directly affect immigration enforcement operations in the areas surrounding World Cup venues and fan events, ensuring that routine civil immigration enforcement does not occur in these designated zones.

Energy Bills Relief Act

Maddy summaryThe Energy Bills Relief Act aims to lower household energy costs and accelerate the development of low-cost, clean energy by modifying federal tax credits, expanding weatherization programs, and streamlining permitting processes. Key provisions include restoring tax incentives for renewable energy projects, increasing funding for low-income heating assistance, and requiring federal agencies to treat wind, solar, and storage projects with the same procedural fairness as oil and gas projects. The bill also establishes new incentives for upgrading the electricity grid, such as tax credits for transmission lines and grants for wildfire prevention measures, while creating mechanisms to ensure utilities serve public interests and protect consumers from price volatility.

Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act

Maddy summaryThis bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to cover abortion care, counseling, and related medication as part of standard hospital and medical services for eligible veterans and certain dependents. It amends VA healthcare law to explicitly include these services under existing coverage for veterans qualifying under section 1703 and dependents eligible under section 1781(a). The policy directly affects veterans and their dependents enrolled in VA healthcare programs by expanding covered benefits to include abortion-related care. This is a concrete policy change to VA healthcare benefits, not a broader abortion law.
