Calling for the return of abducted Ukrainian children before finalizing any peace agreement to end the war against Ukraine.

Maddy summaryHRES 564 is a non-binding House resolution calling on the U.S. government to prioritize the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia before any peace agreement is finalized. It cites 19,546 confirmed reports of unlawful child deportations to Russia or occupied territories as of April 2025, noting only 1,274 have been returned. The resolution condemns Russia's actions as violations of the Geneva Convention and Genocide Convention, including forced adoptions and Russification policies. It urges that all abducted children be returned prior to concluding peace talks, emphasizing this as a necessary condition for a just resolution to the war. The resolution does not create new law but expresses congressional position on a key issue in U.S. diplomatic efforts.

Recognizing the right to peacefully protest and condemning violence and authoritarian responses to expressions of dissent.

Maddy summaryHRES 543 is a symbolic House resolution (not a law) introduced by multiple representatives. It affirms the constitutional right to peaceful protest under the First Amendment and condemns violent acts by some individuals during demonstrations, such as vandalism and looting. The resolution specifically criticizes the President’s 2025 deployment of National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles without proper legal authority (violating 10 U.S.C. § 12406 and the Posse Comitatus Act) and without coordination with California’s governor. It also denounces inflammatory rhetoric that escalated tensions and supports law enforcement efforts to protect public safety during protests. The resolution has no binding effect but formally expresses congressional position on these issues.

Currently, such therapy is covered only if provided by a primary care practitioner. The bill also allows coverage under Medicare's prescription drug benefit of drugs used for the treatment of obesity or for weight loss management for individuals who are overweight.

Bridge Corrosion Prevention and Repair Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 4170 requires federally funded bridge projects (including highway and railroad bridges) to use certified contractors trained in corrosion prevention. It mandates that contractors employ workers certified through qualified training programs meeting industry standards (like ANSI/NACE) for tasks like surface preparation, coating application, and hazardous material removal. The bill also expands federal grant eligibility to include corrosion control work on rail bridges and directs the Transportation Secretary to study best practices for inspecting and repairing weathering steel bridges within 18 months. These changes directly affect bridge contractors, federal agencies managing infrastructure funding, and state/local bridge maintenance entities.

CONNECT for Health Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThe CONNECT for Health Act of 2025 expands Medicare telehealth coverage by removing geographic restrictions that limited where patients could receive care, expanding the types of health care providers who can offer telehealth services, and eliminating the requirement for an in-person visit before receiving telemental health services. The bill includes specific provisions to support telehealth use for Native American health facilities, rural health clinics, and Federally Qualified Health Centers. It requires the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to collect and publish data on telehealth usage and impacts, and to develop resources to improve accessibility for people with disabilities and limited English proficiency. PFAS National Drinking Water Standard Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill makes the Environmental Protection Agency's existing April 2024 rule on PFAS limits in drinking water legally binding. It codifies the EPA's "PFAS National Primary Drinking Water Regulation" (89 Fed. Reg. 32532), which sets enforceable limits for specific PFAS chemicals in public water systems. The rule directly affects municipal water providers and communities relying on public water sources by requiring them to meet these new contaminant standards. The bill does not create new standards but formally adopts the EPA's previously issued rule into law.

Ensuring Justice for Camp Lejeune Victims Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill makes technical corrections to the Camp Lejeune Justice Act of 2022 to streamline claims for individuals harmed by water contamination at Camp Lejeune. It clarifies the evidence required (30+ days at the base plus a link between contaminants and health harm), specifies that cases must be handled in North Carolina courts (with limited transfer options), and sets attorney fee caps (20% before suit, 25% after). These changes directly affect veterans and civilians who lived at Camp Lejeune and filed claims under the 2022 law. The bill does not create new eligibility but aims to improve the legal process for existing cases.

Women’s Health Protection Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThe Women's Health Protection Act of 2025 would protect access to abortion services across the United States by prohibiting states from imposing restrictions that are more burdensome than those on comparable medical procedures. The bill directly affects people seeking abortion care and health care providers by banning restrictions such as mandatory in-person visits, requirements for specific tests, limitations on telemedicine, and rules based on a patient's reason for seeking abortion. It prohibits state laws that single out abortion for unnecessary restrictions while allowing post-viability abortions when necessary to protect a patient's life or health. The bill preempts conflicting state laws and provides enforcement mechanisms through private lawsuits and actions by the Attorney General.

Break the Cycle of Violence Act

Maddy summaryThis bill creates federal funding for community-based violence intervention programs in high-violence areas, targeting communities with 35+ homicides annually or 20+ homicides with rates double the national average. It establishes grants for community organizations to implement trauma-informed violence interruption strategies, hospital-based programs for injured patients, and job training for "opportunity youth" (16-25 year olds not in school or work). The legislation authorizes $300 million in 2026, increasing to $700 million annually through 2033, with requirements for evidence-based approaches that reduce violence without contributing to mass incarceration. It creates a National Community Violence Response Center to coordinate data collection, research, and best practices for these programs. The focus is on prevention through economic opportunity, trauma care, and community-driven interventions rather than traditional law enforcement approaches.
