Social Determinants for Moms Act

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes a federal task force to address maternal health disparities by coordinating efforts across multiple government agencies and community stakeholders to reduce preventable maternal deaths and serious health complications. The task force will include representatives from various departments such as Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Transportation, along with community leaders, patients, and healthcare providers focused on maternal health. Additionally, the bill authorizes $100 million over five years to provide grants to community organizations for addressing social determinants of maternal health including housing, transportation, nutrition, employment, and environmental conditions. These grants prioritize areas with high rates of maternal mortality and poverty, and recipients must submit annual reports on their activities and outcomes. The legislation defines key terms such as maternal mortality and social determinants of maternal health to guide implementation and reporting requirements.

Energy Bills Relief Act

Maddy summaryThe Energy Bills Relief Act aims to lower household energy costs and accelerate the development of low-cost, clean energy by modifying federal tax credits, expanding weatherization programs, and streamlining permitting processes. Key provisions include restoring tax incentives for renewable energy projects, increasing funding for low-income heating assistance, and requiring federal agencies to treat wind, solar, and storage projects with the same procedural fairness as oil and gas projects. The bill also establishes new incentives for upgrading the electricity grid, such as tax credits for transmission lines and grants for wildfire prevention measures, while creating mechanisms to ensure utilities serve public interests and protect consumers from price volatility.

Feeding Families Not Fear Act of 2026

Maddy summaryThe Feeding Families Not Fear Act of 2026 reverses specific provisions from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 by restoring funding and benefits that were previously cut. It directly affects low-income families and individuals who rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by reinstating benefits that were reduced under earlier legislation. The bill achieves this by repealing two sections that increased funding for immigration and customs enforcement and another section that modified SNAP benefits under the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008. By removing these changes, the legislation returns SNAP provisions to their previous state as if the 2025 law had not been enacted.

Reproductive Freedom for Veterans Act

Maddy summaryThis bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to cover abortion care, counseling, and related medication as part of standard hospital and medical services for eligible veterans and certain dependents. It amends VA healthcare law to explicitly include these services under existing coverage for veterans qualifying under section 1703 and dependents eligible under section 1781(a). The policy directly affects veterans and their dependents enrolled in VA healthcare programs by expanding covered benefits to include abortion-related care. This is a concrete policy change to VA healthcare benefits, not a broader abortion law.

Enhanced Iran Sanctions Act of 2025

Enhanced Iran Sanctions Act of 2025 This bill imposes sanctions on certain foreign persons (individuals and entities) that are involved in Iran's petroleum sector as well as certain associated persons. The bill also requires or authorizes actions to facilitate the enforcement of sanctions on Iran. Specifically, the bill requires the President to impose visa- and property-blocking sanctions on any foreign person that, after the bill's enactment, knowingly engages in any transaction related to the processing, export, or sale of oil, condensates, gas, liquefied natural gas, or other petrochemical products in whole or in part from Iran. The President must also impose sanctions on certain foreign persons associated with a sanctioned individual or entity. For example, the President must sanction the subsidiaries and corporate officers of a sanctioned business. The bill provides certain exceptions to these sanctions, including specifying that sanctions do not apply to the importation of goods or to conducting or facilitating transactions for humanitarian assistance. The Department of State must establish an interagency working group that shall seek to establish a multilateral contact group to coordinate international efforts to enforce sanctions on Iran. The bill expands the State Department rewards program to authorize a reward payment to any individual who furnishes information leading to the identification of a person (1) subject to sanctions under this bill, or (2) that has attempted or is attempting to evade sanctions under this bill.

Working Americans’ Tax Cut Act

Maddy summaryThis bill, titled the Working Americans' Tax Cut Act, proposes two main tax changes: it would create an alternative maximum tax rate of 25.5% for individuals earning less than 175% of a cost-of-living exemption (approximately $46,000 for single filers), and it would impose a progressive surcharge on high-income taxpayers earning over $1 million. The alternative tax would cap the total tax liability for low- and middle-income earners at 25.5% of their income above a basic living threshold, while the surcharge would add 5%, 10%, and 12% taxes on income brackets above $1 million, $2 million, and $5 million respectively. Both provisions would apply to taxable years beginning after December 31, 2025, and include inflation adjustments based on the Consumer Price Index.

Diabetes Foot Health Access and Modernization Act of 2026

Maddy summaryThis bill, known as the Diabetes Foot Health Access and Modernization Act of 2026, makes two main changes to federal healthcare programs. Second, it updates Medicare rules to clarify documentation requirements for diabetic shoes, specifying conditions under which patients can receive extra-depth or custom-molded footwear. The changes take effect on January 1, 2026, for Medicaid services and January 1, 2028, for Medicare shoe coverage.

Addressing Teacher Shortages Act of 2026

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes the Addressing Teacher Shortages Act of 2026, which creates a federal grant program to help schools and districts prepare and retain educators in under-resourced and underserved communities. The program provides competitive grants to eligible entities for activities such as teaching residency programs, mentor teacher initiatives, Grow Your Own programs that recruit local community members, and 2+2 partnerships between community colleges and universities. Grant funds are specifically reserved to address shortages in rural areas, high-need subject areas like STEM and special education, and to diversify the teaching workforce. Recipients must provide matching funds and submit detailed reports on retention rates, licensure pass rates, and the percentage of teachers from underrepresented groups. The program authorizes funding from fiscal years 2027 through 2032 and includes provisions for planning grants for entities that have not previously received support.

Tariff Relief for Consumers Act

Maddy summaryThis bill directs the Treasury Department to create a program that refunds tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to importers who prove they lowered consumer prices as a result. The legislation specifically targets companies that paid over $5 million in these tariffs while excluding small businesses with less than $10 million in revenue. Importers must demonstrate how they will pass refunds directly to consumers through price cuts on essential goods like infant formula, diapers, and basic food items, or provide rebates to customers. The bill also prevents companies from conducting stock buybacks or paying dividends unless they certify they have taken steps to reduce consumer prices. All refunds must be processed within 180 days of the bill's enactment, with priority given to importers showing immediate price reductions for essential consumer products.
