More Paid Leave for More Americans Act

Maddy summaryThis bill establishes a federal grant program to help states create or improve paid family leave programs that provide at least 6 weeks of paid leave for new parents (for birth or adoption). States with existing programs can apply for grants to fund implementation, improve access for low-income workers, and coordinate with other states through a new Interstate Paid Leave Action Network. The grants can be used for program design, technology, outreach, and administrative costs, with states required to meet specific benefit standards including income-based calculations (higher percentages for lower-income workers). The bill aims to increase access to paid family leave for workers across states by standardizing and coordinating state programs through the new interstate network.

Assault Weapons Ban of 2025

Assault Weapons Ban of 2025 This bill makes it a crime to knowingly import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon (SAW) or large capacity ammunition feeding device (LCAFD). The prohibition does not apply to a firearm that is (1) manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action, except for certain shotguns; (2) permanently inoperable; (3) an antique; (4) only capable of firing rimfire ammunition; or (5) a rifle or shotgun specifically identified by make and model. The bill permits continued possession of, but prohibits sale or transfer of, a grandfathered LCAFD. Newly manufactured LCAFDs must display serial number identification. Newly manufactured SAWs and LCAFDs must display the date of manufacture. I–PLAN Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThe I-PLAN Act of 2025 establishes an Interstate Paid Leave Action Network (I-PLAN) to coordinate state paid family and medical leave programs across state lines. It requires participating states to develop a standardized interstate agreement covering key elements like benefit calculations, eligibility rules, and administrative processes to simplify compliance for employers and employees working in multiple states. The bill creates a national intermediary to support I-PLAN activities, including developing technology systems for processing cross-state leave claims and producing annual reports comparing state programs. States with existing paid leave programs can receive federal grants to help implement the agreement and cover administrative costs, with funding authorized for fiscal years 2026-2028. This legislation directly affects states, employers operating across state lines, and employees who work in multiple states.

Of inquiry requesting the President and directing the Secretary of Education to transmit, respectively, certain documents to the House of Representatives relating to the reduction in force and other downsizing measures at the Department of Education.

Maddy summaryThis resolution (HRES 237) is a procedural request, not a policy bill. It directs the President and Secretary of Education to hand over unredacted documents within 14 days about Department of Education downsizing, including staff reductions, closures, and actions related to the Secretary’s March 3, 2025, memo. The documents must cover compliance with key education laws like Title IX, IDEA, and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Equality Act

Maddy summaryThe Equality Act (HR 15) amends federal civil rights laws to explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in employment, housing, public accommodations, credit, and jury service. It expands existing protections under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by adding sexual orientation and gender identity as protected characteristics under sex discrimination prohibitions. The bill clarifies that discrimination against LGBTQ people is a form of sex discrimination, consistent with the Supreme Court's Bostock decision, and adds specific definitions for gender identity and sexual orientation. This legislation directly affects businesses, employers, housing providers, financial institutions, and government entities that serve the public. The bill creates a more comprehensive legal framework to address discrimination that LGBTQ people face in multiple aspects of daily life.

Access to Breast Cancer Diagnosis Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill requires most private health insurance plans to cover diagnostic and supplemental breast exams with no out-of-pocket costs (like deductibles or copays) for enrolled patients. It specifically covers exams used to evaluate abnormalities found in screenings (diagnostic) or for high-risk screening without abnormalities (supplemental), based on medical guidelines. Plans can still require prior authorization for these exams, and state laws offering stronger protections remain in effect. The rule takes effect for plan years starting January 1, 2026.

Expressing support for the designation of April 24, 2025, as "Remanufacturing Day".

Maddy summaryThis resolution (HRES 350) symbolically supports designating April 24, 2025, as "Remanufacturing Day" to highlight the remanufacturing industry. It recognizes remanufacturing as a process that restores used products to like-new condition, citing a 2012 report showing it supports 180,000 U.S. jobs and diverts waste from landfills. The resolution encourages businesses, schools, and communities to celebrate the day and learn about remanufacturing’s economic and environmental benefits. As a non-binding resolution, it does not create new laws but aims to raise public awareness. It directly affects the remanufacturing sector and organizations participating in the designated observance.
