Designating the week beginning November 7, 2022, as "National Pregnancy Center Week" to recognize the vital role that community-supported pregnancy centers play in saving lives and serving women and men faced with difficult pregnancy decisions.

Maddy summaryHRES 1297 is a non-binding House resolution designating the week beginning November 7, 2022, as "National Pregnancy Center Week." It recognizes community-supported pregnancy centers - nonprofit organizations providing free services like pregnancy tests, counseling, ultrasounds, and material support - to individuals facing pregnancy decisions. The resolution highlights these centers' role in serving over 2 million people annually through local, volunteer-driven support. As a symbolic gesture, it does not create new policies or alter funding, focusing solely on acknowledging their work.

Recognizing and honoring Elisjsha Dicken for his demonstration of courage, self-sacrifice, and fidelity to his fellow Americans.

Maddy summaryHRES 1293 is a non-binding House resolution recognizing Elisjsha Dicken, a resident of Seymour, Indiana, for stopping an armed shooter at a Greenwood mall in July 2022. The resolution cites Dicken's actions as saving lives within 15 seconds and notes Indiana's repeal of a handgun permit requirement enabled his lawful carry. It includes statistics on defensive gun use from a CDC study and quotes a police chief calling Dicken "heroic." As a commemorative resolution, it has no policy impact and solely honors Dicken's conduct. (HRES 1293, 117th Congress, 2022)

To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to repeal the National Firearms Act.

Maddy summaryThis bill incorrectly claims to repeal the National Firearms Act (NFA), but its actual text only repeals a specific tax provision (Chapter 53) within the Internal Revenue Code. It would remove a federal tax on certain firearms and related items, but does not affect the NFA itself, which remains in effect as a separate law. The NFA, enacted in 1934, continues to regulate machine guns, short-barreled rifles, and other firearms through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). This bill’s title misrepresents its scope, as it only modifies tax law, not the core NFA regulations.
