Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and Preserve Establishment Act

Maddy summaryThis bill redesignates the existing Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park as Ocmulgee Mounds National Park and establishes a separate Ocmulgee Mounds National Preserve in Georgia. It allows voluntary land acquisition (via purchase, donation, or exchange) for both areas without eminent domain, and requires the Secretary of the Interior to develop a management plan prioritizing cultural resource preservation for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. The bill mandates tribal consultation, provides hiring preferences for tribal members, and ensures protection of sacred sites. It also places 126 acres of tribal land into federal trust for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.

Motorsports Fairness and Permanency Act of 2025

Maddy summaryThis bill amends the tax code to permanently establish a 7-year depreciation period for motorsports entertainment complexes, replacing a temporary provision. It directly affects businesses operating these facilities by allowing them to deduct the cost of qualifying assets over seven years instead of a shorter period. The key change is removing a temporary rule (subparagraph D) from the tax code, making the longer recovery period permanent for these specific properties. The bill focuses solely on clarifying and extending this tax treatment without additional policy changes.

Commemorating the centennial of Delta Air Lines.

Maddy summaryHRES 226 is a ceremonial resolution commemorating Delta Air Lines' 100th anniversary, marking the centennial of its founding on March 2, 1925. It recognizes Delta's history as the first U.S. airline to reach 100 years (originally as Huff Daland Dusters, an aerial crop-dusting company) and highlights its current scale, including 100,000 employees, 5,000 daily flights, and global connectivity. The resolution contains no policy changes or binding provisions - it simply expresses the House's recognition of Delta's milestone and its role in connecting people and supporting communities. As a commemorative resolution, it does not affect any individuals, businesses, or regulations.

Generating Retirement Ownership through Long-Term Holding

Maddy summaryThis bill changes how individual investors in mutual funds (regulated investment companies) are taxed on certain dividends. It allows investors to defer paying tax on capital gain dividends that are automatically reinvested in additional fund shares through a dividend reinvestment plan. The deferred tax is recognized later when the investor sells shares or upon their death. It also establishes that shares acquired through this reinvestment are treated as held for over one year from the start, potentially qualifying for long-term capital gains rates. The rule applies only to individual investors (not estates, trusts, or dependents claimed by others).

Unmasking Hamas Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 2065, the Unmasking Hamas Act of 2025, would make it a federal crime to injure, threaten, or intimidate someone while wearing a disguise (including a mask) in order to interfere with their exercise of constitutional or legal rights. It would impose fines or up to 15 years in prison for such acts, and add a mandatory 2-year prison term for property destruction committed while masked. The bill directly affects individuals who wear masks during protests or demonstrations that disrupt protected rights or damage property, applying to all locations under federal jurisdiction. The law focuses on criminalizing masked conduct that interferes with rights or property, not on the specific content of protests.

Designation of English as the Official Language of the United States Act of 2025

Maddy summaryHR 1772 designates English as the official language of the United States federal government, requiring all official government functions (like laws, regulations, and public proceedings) to be conducted in English. It directly affects federal agencies, naturalization processes (mandating English ceremonies and language standards for new citizens), and government communications. Key exceptions include language teaching, disability education, national security needs, census activities, and protections for Native American languages under existing law. The bill does not restrict the use of other languages in private settings or ban bilingual services for essential government functions. It amends U.S. Code to establish these requirements, with implementation set for 180 days after enactment.
