Permits a licensed real estate broker to pay a commission to a corporation or partnership; provided that the licensed real estate broker earned the commission on behalf of the corporation or partnership and is a member, officer, shareholder, or partner of the corporation or partnership.
Requires a mutual benefit society to allow a special meeting to be called upon the written request of not less than one thousand of its members.
Requires the Contractors License Board to adopt rules to define "incidental and supplemental to the performance of work" to clarify the percentage of a craft or trade in which a specialty contractor may engage without a license while performing work in a craft and trade for which contractor is licensed.
Clarifies the allowable and prohibited practices and training requirements for dental assistants.
Appropriates funds as a grant for the continued support of Hana Health in Hana, Maui. Appropriates funds as a grant to the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center for operation of its twenty-four-hour emergency room. Requires funds necessary for the operation of Hana Health and Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center's emergency services to be included in the department of health's base budget beginning with the 2018-2019 fiscal year. Makes appropriations to Leeward Community College for its special education coursework for teacher licensure and to the Department of Education's Alternate Teacher Route Contract and Teacher Induction and Mentoring programs. Requires the Auditor to report on teacher retention statistics on a school-by-school basis. (SD1)
Provides a state income tax deduction of up to $5,000 per year for student loan interest paid on qualified education loans. Effective 5/12/2059. (SD1)
Requires health care facilities to use transport services from an air ambulance that is contracted with the patient's health carrier when transferring the patient to another health care facility via air ambulance, except under certain conditions. Requires notification if a non-contracted air ambulance service is utilized. (SD1)
Amends the membership of the commission on water resource management to add the chairperson of the Hawaiian homes commission or the chairperson's designee to serve as an ex officio voting member.
Establishes a Hawaii teacher stipend program to be administered by the Department of Education to address the shortage of teachers in the Hawaii public school system. Appropriates funds for the program for 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 fiscal years. (SD1)
