Requires the John A. Burns school of medicine to convene a working group to discuss nutrition and lifestyle behavior for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. Requires a report to the legislature prior to the convening of the regular session of 2019.
Establishes a conservation fee of $20 per person for any length of continuous stay at a hotel or condominium, to be deposited into the special land and development fund.
Establishes the John A. Burns school of medicine scholarship program, which covers the cost of tuition and fees for a full course of study at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns school of medicine in exchange for a service commitment of five years in the State upon the completion of residency. Appropriates funds.
Requires judges, instead of the Hawaii paroling authority, to determine the minimum term of imprisonment a convicted offender must serve before becoming eligible for parole.
Appropriates funds for severance benefits and special retirement benefits for public employees affected by the privatization or closure of Hawaii health systems corporation facilities.
Specifies certain rights of a parent or guardian after the department of human services receives a report concerning child abuse or neglect. Requires written notice to be provided to a parent or guardian at the time of any initial face-to-face-contact with a child's parent or guardian regarding reported child abuse or neglect.
Provides that an independent medical examination and permanent impairment rating examination shall be conducted by a qualified chiropractor or physician selected by the mutual agreement of the parties. Provides a process for appointment in the event that there is no mutual agreement.
Requires the department of health to maintain and make available upon request certain information to a health care provider who provides prenatal or postnatal care pertaining to spina bifida, any person who provides genetic counseling to parents whose fetus or child receives a prenatal or postnatal spina bifida diagnois, any parent whose fetus or child receives a prenatal or postnatal diagnosis of spina bifida, and any person who receives a positive spina bifida test result. Requires health care providers and genetic counselors to provide the information to every parent whose fetus or child receives a prenatal or postnatal diagnosis of spina bifida.
Appropriates funds for an advanced life support ambulance to be based at the Pahoa fire station in Puna on the island of Hawaii, including the acquisition of a vehicle and equipment, and funding personnel costs for state-certified emergency medical services personnel.
