RELATING TO THE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER.

Maddy summaryHB 23 would change the Insurance Commissioner position from one appointed by the governor to one elected by voters, starting with the 2026 general election. This directly affects the state's insurance regulator, shifting selection from executive appointment to public election. The key provision requires the Insurance Commissioner to be elected in the 2026 and subsequent general elections, replacing the current appointment process. Voters would then choose the commissioner instead of the governor filling the role.
