Primary HB 1193
In committee · Hawaii House · Lead sponsor
RELATING TO PARENTAGE.

Maddy summaryHB 1193 replaces the outdated 1973 Uniform Parentage Act with updated provisions from the 2017 Uniform Parentage Act. It modernizes legal rules around parentage, directly affecting parents, children, and child welfare systems handling cases like adoption, assisted reproduction, and paternity. Key changes include clearer definitions for non-biological parents in modern family structures (e.g., IVF, surrogacy) and updated procedures for establishing legal parentage. The bill aims to align state law with current family dynamics and medical practices without altering core rights. This is a substantive policy update, not a procedural measure.
