RELATING TO THE COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE THIRTY-THIRD LEGISLATURE.

Maddy summaryThis House Resolution (HR 13) amends committee assignments for the Hawaii House of Representatives' Thirty-Third Legislature following resignations and reassignments. It removes former Representative Daniel Holt from multiple committee roles and adjusts positions for several current members: Sean Quinlan becomes Chair of the Legislative Management Committee (replacing Holt), Linda Ichiyama joins as Vice Chair, Kirstin Kahaloa is added to the Legislative Management Committee, and Kyle Yamashita transitions from Revenue Manager to GIA Manager on the Finance Committee. All other committee memberships remain unchanged per prior House resolutions. The changes directly affect the 13 House members named in the resolution and govern internal legislative committee structure for the 2026 session.

RELATING TO FIREARMS.

Maddy summaryHB 2061 appropriates state funds to establish a gun buyback program, requiring at least two buyback events in every county each year. The bill directly affects residents who may participate in these events to exchange firearms for cash. Key provisions include dedicated funding allocation for program operations and mandatory event scheduling across all counties. This policy change creates a structured, statewide initiative for firearm buybacks without altering gun ownership laws.
