Ad Valorem Tax: homestead exemption; educational purposes in an amount equal to $100,000.00 of the assessed value of the homestead for residents; provide

A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Chapter 5 of Title 48 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to ad valorem taxation of property, so as to provide for a homestead exemption from ad valorem taxes for educational purposes in an amount equal to $100,000.00 of the assessed value of the homestead for residents of any school district that has been certified by the State Board of Education for a given year to have substantially deviated from the course curriculum approved by the State Board of Education; to provide for definitions; to specify the terms and conditions of the exemption and the procedures relating thereto; to provide for an effective date, applicability, and automatic repeal; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

A RESOLUTION proposing an amendment to the Constitution so as to provide that each resident of a school district shall be entitled to claim an ad valorem tax exemption from the assessed value of the resident's homestead for school district taxes in an amount prescribed by general law if the State Board of Education adopts a resolution declaring that such school district has substantially deviated from the board's approved course curriculum; to provide for related matters; to provide for the submission of this amendment for ratification or rejection; and for other purposes.
