School Absence Due to Sickness or Injury; Providing that a written statement attesting to the impracticability or inadvisability of attendance on account of sickness or injury may be attested to by a licensed professional other than a practicing physician, as determined by school board policy, etc.
State Nutrition Assistance Reimbursement Program; Requiring the Department of Children and Families to develop and implement a state nutrition assistance reimbursement program for a specified purpose; requiring the department to determine eligibility criteria and application procedures for the program; requiring the department to establish a funding mechanism to support reimbursements under the program, etc.
Use or Threatened Use of Force; Citing this act as the “Self-Defense Restoration Act”; deleting provisions stating that persons who use or threaten to use force, other than deadly force, do not have a duty to retreat before using or threatening to use such force in defense of persons or property; prohibiting the use of deadly force by a person who knows that he or she can avoid the necessity of using deadly force with complete safety by retreating; repealing a provision relating to immunity from criminal prosecution and civil action for justifiable use or threatened use of force, etc.
Public Meetings and Public Records/Community Violence Task Force; Providing an exemption from public meetings requirements for portions of meetings of the Community Violence Task Force during which exempt or confidential and exempt information is discussed; requiring the recording and transcription of exempt portions of such meetings; providing an exemption from public records requirements for such recordings and transcripts; providing a statement of public necessity, etc.
Elections; Repealing a provision relating to civil actions challenging the validity of election laws; revising the time period within which a third-party voter registration organization must deliver voter registration applications to the Division of Elections of the Department of State or to a supervisor of elections; revising information that an elector must provide to a supervisor of elections when the elector changes his or her residence address; revising requirements for vote-by-mail ballot requests, etc.
Pregnant Women in Custody; Citing this act as "Ava’s Law"; requiring that every female who is arrested and not released on bond within 72 hours after arrest be administered a pregnancy test within a specified timeframe, upon her request; authorizing a sentencing court to stay the beginning of the period of incarceration for up to a certain timeframe for a pregnant woman convicted of any offense; authorizing a sentencing court to order a pregnant woman to comply with specified terms and conditions during the stay of the incarceration, etc.
Required Instruction in the History of African Americans; Providing that instructional staff of public schools are encouraged to include the history of local African-American cemeteries in the study of the history of African Americans when practicable, etc.
Required Instruction in the History of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders; Requiring the history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to be included in specified instruction, etc.
Military Corpsmen and Medics of Florida (MCMF) Program; Creating the MCMF Program Office of Veterans Advocacy within the Department of Health; requiring the MCMF Program, through the Department of Economic Opportunity, to assist certain veterans and their spouses with specified tasks; requiring Florida Is for Veterans, Inc., to collaborate with specified entities to implement the MCMF Program, etc.
Children and Young Adults in Out-of-home Care; Specifying the rights of, rather than goals for, children and young adults in out-of-home care; providing the roles and responsibilities of the Department of Children and Families, community-based care lead agencies, and other agency staff; designating a children’s ombudsman as an autonomous entity within the department; requiring the ombudsman, in consultation with the department and other specified entities and by a specified date, to develop standardized information explaining the rights of children and young adults placed in out-of-home care, etc.
