Relating to requirements for deputy sheriffs

HB 5019 increases the maximum bond amount required for deputy sheriffs from $100,000 to $500,000, while also setting a $500,000 maximum for bonds of other county officials like clerks, surveyors, and county commissioners. Deputy sheriffs must now have bonds of at least $35,000 but no more than $500,000, enhancing financial accountability for public funds they handle. This change applies to all West Virginia counties and takes effect upon enactment. Note that the bond requirement is waived for deputy sheriffs if a county has purchased professional liability insurance as specified under existing law.
