HR 6871: DHS Acquisition Reform Act

DHS Acquisition Reform Act This bill revises acquisition and procurement programs and activities of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The bill (1) designates the DHS Under Secretary for Management as the DHS Chief Acquisition Officer and sets forth the Under Secretary's acquisition-related duties, (2) sets forth new acquisition responsibilities of the DHS Chief Financial Officer and the DHS Chief Information Officer, and (3) establishes within the Management Directorate of DHS a Program Accountability and Risk Management Office and sets forth the responsibilities of its Executive Director.

HR 6868: Cybersecurity Grants for Schools Act of 2022

Cybersecurity Grants for Schools Act of 2022 This bill allows the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to award grants or other financial assistance for cybersecurity and infrastructure security education and training programs at the elementary and secondary education levels. Entities eligible for the assistance include states, localities, institutions of higher education, and nonprofits. Additionally, CISA must include information about how the grants and assistance enhance cybersecurity education for underserved populations or communities in annual briefings.

HR 6873: Bombing Prevention Act of 2022

Bombing Prevention Act of 2022 This bill establishes within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) an Office for Bombing Prevention. The office shall advise DHS on matters related to terrorist explosive threats and attacks in the United States, coordinate DHS efforts to counter such threats and attacks, and take other specified steps, including promoting security awareness. The bill also requires DHS to provide to the public and private sector technical assistance to counter terrorist explosive threats and attacks that pose a risk in certain jurisdictions to critical infrastructure facilities or to special events. The office shall develop a strategy to align the office's activities with the threat environment and stakeholder needs, and to make the public and private sector aware of the office's capabilities. DHS must also ensure coordination and information sharing regarding nonmilitary research, development, testing, and evaluation activities relating to terrorist explosive threats and attacks in the United States.

HR 6376: Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act

Student Veteran Work Study Modernization Act This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to implement a five-year pilot program to expand eligibility for the work-study allowance program to individuals who are pursuing programs of rehabilitation, education, or training at a rate equal to at least half of that required of a full-time student. To offset the cost of the program, the bill extends from January 14, 2031, to January 23, 2031, the end of the period for certain VA housing loan fee rates under the VA home loan program.

SRES 640: A resolution expressing support to increase the growing number of Latino students and young professionals entering careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

This resolution supports the goal of increasing the number of Latino individuals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as a way to promote economic empowerment and sustainability, not only in their community but in the overall economy of the United States. The resolution also supports increasing the representation of Latino individuals in STEM fields to enhance and improve representation and improve performance in the STEM workforce. Finally, the resolution encourages increased federal support for initiatives aimed at boosting the number of Latino students who pursue STEM education and career paths, particularly engineering.

HRES 1118: Expressing the sense of the House of Representatives that the United States recognizes the mounting personal and financial burden of diet-related disease in the United States and calls on medical schools, graduate medical education programs, and other health professional training programs to provide meaningful physician and health professional education on nutrition and diet.

This resolution expresses support for activities to ensure that health professional training programs (e.g., medical schools, residencies, and fellowships) incorporate substantive training in nutrition and diet.

S 1596: Greatest Generation Memorial Act

Greatest Generation Commemorative Coin Act This bill directs the Department of the Treasury to mint and issue up to 50,000 $5 coins, 400,000 $1 silver coins, and 750,000 half-dollar clad coins in commemoration of the National World War II Memorial in the District of Columbia. The design of the coins shall be emblematic of the memorial and the service and sacrifice of American soldiers and civilians during World War II. All surcharges received from the sale of such coins shall be paid to the Friends of the National World War II Memorial to support the National Park Service in maintaining and repairing the memorial, and for educational and commemorative programs.
