S 142: Wildland Firefighters Congressional Gold Medal Act

This bill authorizes Congress to award a single Congressional Gold Medal to wildland firefighters collectively, recognizing their service in protecting forests, grasslands, and communities. It directs the Secretary of the Treasury to strike the medal with input from the National Interagency Fire Center, with the medal to be displayed at that center for public access and research. The bill also permits the sale of bronze duplicates at cost to cover production expenses, but does not create new benefits or policy changes for firefighters. The medal honors all federal, state, local, and contract wildland firefighters who serve in high-risk conditions, including those who have died or been injured in service.

S 145: Dismantle Iran’s Proxy Act of 2025

This bill requires the President to designate Ansarallah (the Houthi movement in Yemen) as a foreign terrorist organization within 30 days, imposing sanctions on the group and its officials or affiliates. It mandates a 180-day strategy to restore Red Sea navigation and degrade Ansarallah's military capabilities, including targeting their command structure and support networks. The bill also requires a report on humanitarian aid obstacles in Yemen under Ansarallah's control, detailing bureaucratic barriers, interference with aid delivery, and threats to aid workers. The provisions directly affect Ansarallah, its leadership (including key figures like Abdul Malik al-Houthi), and U.S. efforts to support humanitarian access in Yemen.

HR 516: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to modify the railroad track maintenance credit.

This bill increases the annual limit on the tax credit for qualified railroad track maintenance expenses (also referred to as the short line railroad tax credit) and expands eligibility for claiming the credit. Under current law, the tax credit is limited each tax year to $3,500 multiplied by the sum of the number of miles of railroad track owned or leased by the taxpayer (miles owned or leased) and the number of railroad track miles assigned to the taxpayer by a Class II or III railroad (miles assigned). This bill increases the annual limit to $6,100 multiplied by the sum of miles owned or leased and miles assigned. The $6,100 amount used in the calculation of the tax credit limit is adjusted for inflation for tax years beginning after 2025. The bill also expands eligibility for the tax credit to include gross expenses for maintaining railroad tracks owned or leased as of January 1, 2024. Under current law, the tax credit is limited to gross expenses for maintaining railroad tracks owned or leased as of January 1, 2015.

HR 33: To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide special rules for the taxation of certain residents of Taiwan with income from sources within the United States.

This bill creates special tax rules for certain Taiwanese residents with income from U.S. sources, primarily addressing double taxation concerns. It reduces withholding tax rates on interest, dividends, and royalties from 30% to 10% (or 15% for certain dividends) for qualified Taiwanese residents, and eliminates tax on certain wages paid to Taiwanese workers in the U.S. It also sets a $30,000 annual limit on tax-free income from entertainment or athletic activities. To qualify, individuals must meet specific residency and ownership criteria, and the bill requires reciprocal tax benefits from Taiwan before taking effect. This legislation is designed to facilitate economic activity between the U.S. and Taiwan without requiring a formal tax treaty.

S 94: Miracle on Ice Congressional Gold Medal Act

S 94, the "Miracle on Ice Congressional Gold Medal Act," authorizes three congressional gold medals for the 1980 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team members. The bill directs the Secretary of the Treasury to strike the medals, with one medal displayed at each of three locations: the Lake Placid Olympic Center, the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum in Minnesota, and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs. The legislation also permits the sale of bronze duplicates to cover costs, with proceeds going to the U.S. Mint. This is a commemorative measure recognizing the team's 1980 Olympic victory, not a policy change affecting current legislation or constituents.

HR 404: Hearing Protection Act

HR 404, the "Hearing Protection Act," reclassifies firearm silencers (devices that reduce gunfire noise) as firearms for federal tax and regulatory purposes. It imposes a 10% federal tax on silencers, requires the destruction of all existing federal silencer registration records within one year, and preempts state laws that tax or regulate silencers. The bill clarifies that silencers are treated as firearms under federal law, including for licensing and marking requirements, and defines "firearm silencer" to include specific components. Note: The bill’s title is misleading - it addresses firearm silencer regulation, not hearing protection for people.

HR 28: Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025

HR 28, the *Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025*, amends Title IX to prohibit federally funded schools from allowing male-identified individuals (based on biological sex at birth) to compete on women’s or girls’ sports teams. It explicitly states that such participation would violate federal civil rights law, with exceptions only for training/practice that doesn’t displace female athletes from roster spots, competitions, scholarships, or other benefits. The bill mandates a Comptroller General study to define "other benefits" lost by girls when males compete in single-sex sports, including impacts on psychological well-being, scholarship access, and safe participation environments. This bill directly affects all athletic programs receiving federal funding, requiring compliance with its biological-sex-based eligibility rules.

This procedural resolution (SRES 26) formally appoints the majority party's members to specific Senate committees for the 119th Congress. It lists the designated committee chairs and members for committees including Agriculture, Energy and Natural Resources, Aging, and Small Business. The resolution establishes these committee assignments until new members are chosen, without changing any substantive laws or policies. S 84: Sarah's Law

This bill requires mandatory detention for certain noncitizens (aliens) charged with crimes resulting in death or serious bodily injury, specifically those who entered without inspection, had a revoked temporary visa, or fall under specific immigration categories. It directly affects noncitizens facing such criminal charges and crime victims or their families. Key provisions mandate U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to notify victims (or their families if deceased) about the alien’s identity, immigration status, custody details, and removal efforts. The bill also clarifies that these requirements do not override existing victim rights under other laws.

HR 396: TRUST in Congress Act

The TRUST in Congress Act requires current and new Members of Congress, along with their spouses and dependent children, to place certain investments - such as stocks, commodities, and derivatives - into a blind trust within 90 to 180 days of taking office. It excludes U.S. Treasury securities and widely held mutual funds from this requirement and exempts investments tied to a spouse’s or dependent child’s primary job. Members must certify the trust’s setup to the House Clerk or Senate Secretary within 15 days, with these records posted publicly online. The act also prohibits dissolving such trusts until 180 days after a member leaves office.
