Protecting Our Nation’s Capital Emergency Act
What changed between versions
The entire findings section was deleted. It had documented specific crime statistics in DC (24,996 crimes as of Sept 2023, 197 homicides, 5,262 vehicle thefts) and noted the Metropolitan Police Department lost over 1,200 members since 2020. These findings served as the legislative justification for the bill.
The purpose statement was deleted. It had stated the Act's goal was to combat rising violent crime by eliminating policies that placed DC law enforcement at risk and discouraging them from serving, and to ensure equitable treatment and increased recruitment/retention of personnel.
The short title was changed from 'Protecting Our Nation's Capital Emergency Act of 2025' to 'Protecting Our Nation's Capital Emergency Act,' removing the year designation.
A capitalization error was corrected: 'right To negotiate' became 'right to negotiate.' Section numbering was adjusted (former Section 3 renumbered to Section 2) to account for the deleted findings section.
