This bill updates terminology in New York's lithium-ion battery safety resources to replace "moped" with "limited use motorcycle" (as defined in Vehicle and Traffic Law §121-b). It requires the Department of State to create and publish public safety resources covering fire prevention, charging, disposal, and emergency response for lithium-ion batteries used in limited use motorcycles, micromobility devices, and electric-assist bicycles. The resources must be accessible online and address hazards specific to these battery-powered devices. The bill became law on February 14, 2025, after passing both legislative chambers.
