Preventing Youth Substance Abuse Act of 2021 This bill authorizes for FY2022-FY2026 the Opioid Affected Youth Initiative, which is administered by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
This resolution honors and commends the women who served in the Navy Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service (WAVES) during World War II. Additionally, the resolution recognizes that the WAVES opened opportunities for women and contributed vitally to the victory of the United States and Allies in World War II.
SRES 372 is a symbolic Senate resolution designating the week beginning September 13, 2021, as "National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week." It recognizes Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) - colleges and universities with at least 25% Hispanic undergraduate enrollment - as vital providers of higher education to underserved students, particularly Hispanic learners. The resolution calls on the public and organizations to observe the week with events supporting these institutions, which serve 2.3 million Hispanic students nationwide. American Energy Worker Opportunity Act of 2021 This bill establishes the Office of American Energy Workers in the Department of the Treasury to provide displaced coal workers with wage replacement, health care premiums, retirement savings contributions, and educational assistance. The bill also provides educational assistance for the children of displaced coal workers and provides an incentive for clean energy employers to hire displaced coal workers.
Reducing Waste in National Parks Act This bill directs the National Park Service to establish a program for the National Park System to reduce disposable plastic products and, if applicable, eliminate the sale and distribution of disposable plastic products. Each regional office of the National Park Service must eliminate the sale of water in disposable plastic products and the sale and distribution of other disposable plastic products after consideration of several specified factors (e.g., the costs and benefits to overall operations). Each regional office must develop a proactive visitor education strategy to address visitor expectations of water availability and explain the rationale for the program and its implementation.
Alexander Lofgren Veterans in Parks (VIP) Act This bill makes the America the Beautiful-National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass available, without charge, to members of the Armed Forces, veterans, and Gold Star Families. The pass covers the entrance fee and standard amenity recreation fee for all federal recreational lands and waters.
Amache National Historic Site Act This bill directs the National Park Service (NPS) to establish, when sufficient land within the exterior boundary of what is to be the Amache National Historic Site has been acquired to constitute a manageable unit, to establish such historic site in Colorado as a unit of the National Park System to preserve, protect, and interpret for the benefit of present and future generations resources associated with the incarceration of civilians of Japanese ancestry during World War II at Amache, also known as the Granada Relocation Center, and the military service of incarcerees at the Granada Relocation Center. The NPS may acquire by donation or purchase any land or interests in land located within the exterior boundary of the National Historic Site, except that the NPS may acquire personal property associated with the purposes of the historic site only by donation. The NPS must prepare a general management plan for the historic site. The NPS may enter into agreements with public or private entities to establish and operate facilities outside of the exterior boundary of the historic site for administration, visitor services, and curation of personal property; and other public or private entities to carry out this bill.
Bronzeville-Black Metropolis National Heritage Area Act This bill establishes the Bronzeville-Black Metropolis National Heritage Area in Chicago, Illinois. The Black Metropolis National Heritage Area Commission shall be the local coordinating entity for the heritage area and shall submit a management plan for the heritage area. The authority of the Department of the Interior to provide financial assistance to the heritage area expires 15 years after the enactment of this bill.
Advancing Tech Startups Act This bill requires the Department of Commerce to study and report on the impact of technology startup companies on the U.S. economy. Such study shall involve, among other things, (1) describing the activities of identified locations that are dedicated to the creation, development, and growth of technology startup companies; (2) establishing a list of federal agencies asserting jurisdiction over entities and industry sectors dedicated to technology startup companies; and (3) assessing risks and trends in relevant marketplaces and supply chains that impact technology startup companies in the United States. Commerce must report to Congress the results of such study and any recommendations to promote the creation, development, and growth of technology startup companies.
Dr. Joanne Smith Memorial Rehabilitation Innovation Centers Act This bill directs the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to publish and biennially update a list of all rehabilitation innovation centers. The bill defines rehabilitation innovation centers as rehabilitation facilities that (1) hold specified federal research and training designations for traumatic brain injury or spinal cord injury research, and (2) serve at least a certain number of Medicare patients.
Supply Chain Health And Integrity for the Nation Act or the Supply CHAIN Act This bill establishes the Supply Chain Resiliency and Crisis Response Office to monitor and respond to disruptions in critical industries and supply chains. Specifically, the office must (1) identify high-priority supply chain gaps and vulnerabilities in critical industries, (2) identify and evaluate the effect of supply chain disruptions on U.S. economic security, and (3) collaborate with other governmental bodies and key international partners to identify opportunities to reduce supply chain gaps and vulnerabilities. The office also must establish a unified coordination group to oversee the interagency response to supply chain shocks and the office must designate certain critical industries, supply chains, and critical goods and services. The bill includes various reporting requirements.
Building Resilient Supply Chains Act This bill establishes the Supply Chain Resiliency and Crisis Response Office within the Department of Commerce to make grants and loans to support domestic manufacturing of critical goods and services, industrial equipment, and manufacturing technology. The grants and loans also may be used to support the security and expansion of supply chains.
