S 1018 Idaho Senate · 68th Legislature, 1st Regular Session (2025)

COUNSELORS AND THERAPISTS – Amends existing law to provide that fingerprint-based criminal history background checks shall be submitted if required by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses.

This bill clarifies that applicants for four types of counseling and therapy licenses in Idaho (licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical professional counselors, licensed associate marriage and family therapists, and licensed marriage and family therapists) must submit fingerprint-based criminal history background checks if required by the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses. It modifies existing licensing sections to explicitly include this background check requirement as a condition for licensure, without creating new standards. The change applies only when the Division mandates the check, making the administrative process clearer for applicants. This is a procedural update to licensing rules, not a substantive policy change.
