HB 593: RELATING TO RESEARCH ACTIVITIES.

Provides that, notwithstanding provisions of the Internal Revenue Code to the contrary, the amount of the state tax credit for research activities shall be calculated based on all qualified research expenses for the taxable year. Appropriates funds for a compliance specialist position within DOTAX to assist with administration of the tax credit. (HB593 HD1)

SB 137: RELATING TO UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII RESEARCH.

Establishes the Innovation and Commercialization Initiative Program to expressly give the University of Hawaii the legal authority to create, finance, and participate in new economic enterprises and expand workforce opportunities based on inventions and discoveries generated by or at the University. SB 424: RELATING TO PUBLIC SAFETY.

Requires police departments to disclose to the Legislature the identity of an officer upon the officer's discharge or second suspension in a five-year period. HB 1012: RELATING TO REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT TRUSTS.

Temporarily disallows the deduction for dividends paid by real estate investment trusts for a period of 15 years, but with an exception for dividends generated from trust-owned housing that is affordable to households with incomes at or below 140 per cent of the median family income. (HB1012 HD2)

HB 1200: MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A FEASIBILITY STUDY AND PLANS FOR A SWIM AREA IN POHOIKI.

Appropriates funds to the Department of Land and Natural Resources to conduct a feasibility study to determine the best means to provide a Pohoiki swimming area and develop plans, in cooperation with the United States Army Corps of Engineers, County of Hawaii, and any stakeholders, for a safe swim area.
