HR 9983: Lori Jackson-Nicolette Elias Domestic Violence Survivor Protection Act

The Lori Jackson-Nicolette Elias Domestic Violence Survivor Protection Act aims to reduce intimate partner homicides by strengthening federal laws that prevent abusers from accessing firearms while restraining orders are active. It expands the definition of "intimate partner" to include dating partners and clarifies that emergency or temporary restraining orders must also trigger gun restrictions. The bill requires courts to automatically issue firearm surrender orders when a protection order is granted, mandating that abusers turn in their guns within 24 hours and prohibiting them from buying new ones for the duration of the order. Additionally, the legislation creates a new grant program to help states and local governments implement these surrender procedures and partner with domestic violence service providers.

HR 9982: Polisario Front Terrorist Designation Act of 2026

This bill requires the Secretary of State to submit annual reports examining whether the Polisario Front, a group involved in the Western Sahara conflict, has exchanged military support or intelligence with Iranian-backed terrorist organizations. If such cooperation is confirmed, the President must designate the Polisario Front as a foreign terrorist organization and freeze its assets under existing sanctions laws. The legislation focuses on specific military aid like weapons, drones, and intelligence, aiming to increase transparency regarding potential links between the two groups without advocating for a specific political outcome.

HR 9978: Homeowners Premium Tax Reduction Act of 2026

The Homeowners Premium Tax Reduction Act of 2026 allows individual taxpayers to deduct up to $10,000 of their annual homeowners insurance premiums from their federal income taxes. This deduction applies specifically to insurance paid for a person's principal residence and is treated as an adjustment to income, meaning it reduces taxable earnings before other deductions are calculated. The law takes effect for tax years that begin after the bill is enacted, providing a direct financial benefit to homeowners who pay qualifying insurance costs.

HR 10012: Veterans Medicare Premium Transparency Act

The Veterans Medicare Premium Transparency Act requires Medicare to clearly explain how a veteran's enrollment in the Department of Veterans Affairs patient enrollment system affects their monthly insurance premiums. Under this bill, annual notices sent to Medicare beneficiaries will explicitly state that time spent in the VA system counts toward premium calculations and qualifies as valid prescription drug coverage. Additionally, the Secretary of Health and Human Services must post this explanation on the Medicare website and submit a report to Congress within 180 days detailing the updates and estimating how many veterans were previously paying higher premiums due to this lack of clarity.

HR 10010: Build Homes, Not Hate Act of 2026

The Build Homes, Not Hate Act of 2026 directs the Federal Emergency Management Agency to create a grant program aimed at reducing homelessness by funding new and existing housing units, emergency shelters, and support services for individuals and families. The legislation appropriates $70 billion for these efforts, allocating at least $54 billion for housing construction and rehabilitation, while reserving $14 billion for direct services like rental assistance, behavioral health support, and job training. Funds may be used for various housing solutions, including modular homes and converting vacant buildings, with a preference for areas experiencing high rates of unsheltered homelessness or rising rent costs. A specific provision prohibits the use of any funds from this program for immigration enforcement, detention, or border wall construction. Additionally, the bill permanently rescinds $70 billion previously designated for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to finance this new housing initiative.

S 5155: American Hiring Transparency Act

The American Hiring Transparency Act introduces a new fee for employers who file applications to hire foreign workers, requiring them to pay a charge equal to the standard nonimmigrant visa fee at the time of filing. Starting in fiscal year 2027, this initial fee will be at least $10,000, with the amount adjusted annually for inflation to keep pace with rising costs. The revenue generated from these fees is split evenly between the Department of Labor and the Office of Personnel Management, with half of the Labor Department's share designated for unspecified purposes and the other half used to improve the USAJOBS job platform. This measure applies specifically to employers seeking permanent employment certification and does not allow for any waivers or reductions of the required payment.

HRES 1460: Acknowledging the courage and sacrifice of veterans of the Korean War and Korean Defense Veterans.

This House resolution formally acknowledges the courage and sacrifice of veterans who served in the Korean War and those who have continued to serve in South Korea as Korean Defense Veterans. It highlights that nearly 1.8 million U.S. service members participated in the conflict, which resulted in over 36,000 American deaths, and notes that approximately 25,000 troops remain stationed in the region today. The text emphasizes that these veterans often returned home without the widespread recognition given to World War II heroes and urges all Americans to honor their service in defending democracy.

HR 9962: Green New Deal for Health Act

The Green New Deal for Health Act establishes a comprehensive federal framework to address the health impacts of climate change by creating new offices, expanding funding, and mandating specific actions across the health care sector. It directly affects hospitals, medical facilities, health care workers, and communities, with a specific focus on protecting environmental justice and low-income populations from climate-related health risks. Key provisions include the creation of an Office of Climate Change and Health Equity to develop a national strategic plan, requirements for hospitals to provide extended notice before closing or reducing essential services, and significant grants to upgrade medical facilities for climate resilience. Additionally, the legislation authorizes Medicare coverage for home resiliency services, such as heat pumps and solar batteries, for individuals at risk during climate disasters, and allocates billions of dollars to expand the community health workforce and support mental health resilience programs.
