Restaurant menus: added sugar warnings.
What changed between versions
Removed 'prominently' from the display standard for the added sugar icon throughout Section 114094.16. The icon now only needs to be displayed 'clearly and conspicuously' rather than 'prominently, clearly, and conspicuously,' giving restaurants more flexibility in menu layout.
Replaced the specific mandated warning text ('The added sugar icon (insert added sugar icon here) indicates that the added sugar content of this item contains or exceeds the total daily recommended limit') with a flexible standard requiring only 'a clear and conspicuous warning indicating that the added sugar icon means that the added sugar content of a standard menu beverage item contains or exceeds the total daily recommended limit.' Restaurants are no longer required to use exact prescribed language.
Added explicit clarification in Section 114094.16(b) that chain restaurants are not required to use the word 'warning' on their menus, removing potential confusion about whether the label must literally say 'warning.'
Changed the definition of menu type from 'Electronic Digital menus' to simply 'Digital menus' in Section 114094.15(e)(2), a minor simplification of terminology.
Renumbered subdivisions in Section 114094.15: former subdivision (g) 'Standard menu beverage item' became (f), and former subdivision (h) 'Third-party platform' became (g), reflecting a consolidation or removal of an intermediate subdivision.
