State cryptid.
What changed between versions
Added Section 425.18 to the Government Code, which states 'Bigfoot is the official state cryptid.' This makes the bill an actual designation rather than just a statement of future intent.
Added 13 findings and declarations (subsections a through m) covering Bigfoot's cultural significance, its origins in Humboldt County, the economic impact of Bigfoot tourism on rural North Coast communities, and the argument that California has the strongest claim to the creature based on the first documented use of the term in 1958.
Added a definition of 'cryptid' as 'a creature that is believed to exist, but whose existence has not been proven definitively by science.'
The original intent statement (that the Legislature intends to enact legislation designating Bigfoot) was retained but renumbered as a separate section following the new Government Code provision, rather than being the sole operative text of the bill.
