Criminal records: expungement.

Existing law, commencing July 1, 2022, subject to an appropriation in the annual Budget Act, requires the Department of Justice, on a monthly basis, to review the records in the statewide criminal justice databases and to identify persons who are eligible for automatic conviction record relief by having their criminal conviction records withheld from disclosure or modified, as specified. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to automatically expunge criminal records of those who do not reoffend after a designated period.
