Severe mental illness.

Existing law provides for various programs at the state and local level for the treatment and support of people with severe mental illness, including providing emergency and outpatient mental health services. Existing law requires the State Department of Health Care Services to perform various functions with regard to the statewide delivery of mental health services, including, among other things, implementing a system of required performance reporting by local mental health programs. This bill would require the department to prepare a study that describes models of supportive health care services and available treatment options and resources for individuals with severe mental illness. The bill would require the department to submit the study to the Senate and Assembly Committees on Health on or before January 1, 2024.
