Cooperative Education Reskilling and Training Pilot Program.
Summary
Existing law establishes the California Community Colleges, under the administration of the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, as one of the segments of public postsecondary education in this state. Existing law requires the board of governors to appoint a chief executive officer, to be known as the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges. Existing law establishes community college districts, administered by governing boards, throughout the state, and authorizes these districts to provide instruction to students at the community college campuses maintained by the districts. This bill would establish the Cooperative Education Reskilling and Training Pilot Program at MiraCosta Community College. The bill would require the pilot program to include 11 not-for-credit work skill training courses that can be completed in 3 to 6 months, inclusive, and the design and implementation of not-for-credit career readiness training offered in conjunction with or before enrollment in the work skill training courses. The bill would require the chancellor to report to the Legislature on the implementation of the pilot program no later than January 1, 2024. The bill would appropriate $5,000,000 from the General Fund to the chancellor for allocation to MiraCosta College for the development and implementation of the program. The bill would repeal these provisions on January 1, 2025.
