Missing persons: family notification.

Existing law requires the Department of Justice to operate a statewide, toll-free hotline to receive information regarding missing children and at-risk adults and to relay the information to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. When a missing person has been found, existing law requires the law enforcement agency locating the missing person to report that information to the Attorney General and requires the report to be made available to the law enforcement agency that reported the person missing within 24 hours. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to define what constitutes "recovery" of human remains from a crime scene, require that the family of a missing person be notified if the person is removed from any missing persons database, and to require that families be made aware of federal and state victims rights laws.
