Individuals with mental illness: change of term.
Summary
Existing law refers to persons with mental disorders and mental defects in provisions relating to, among other things, criminal proceedings, correctional facilities, and property tax exemptions. This bill would state the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to replace those derogatory terms with more culturally sensitive terms when referring to individuals with mental illness. The bill would make those changes throughout various provisions of law.
