Vehicles: registration information.

Existing law establishes the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Program, to address deferred maintenance on the state highway system and the local street and road system, and funds that program, in part, with an annual transportation improvement fee imposed on vehicles with a varying fee between $25 and $175 based on vehicle market value. Existing law generally requires a motor vehicle to be registered, and the appropriate fees paid, in order to operate the vehicle on a highway, as specified. This bill would require the application to renew the registration for a vehicle to display, as a separate line item, the amount of the transportation improvement fee that is included in the cost of registration for the vehicle.
