State government: Department of Justice: Children's Justice Fund.
Summary
Existing law establishes the Attorney General as the head of the Department of Justice. There is in the Department of Justice a Bureau of Children's Justice. The bureau investigates and enforces the legal rights of children, including the enforcement of civil rights laws and state criminal laws relating to child abuse and human trafficking. This bill would create in the State Treasury the Children's Justice Fund for the deposit of penalty moneys that are recovered pursuant to any action or settlement of a claim brought by the Bureau of Children's Justice. Subject to appropriation by the Legislature, the bill would require those moneys to be expended by the bureau for specified purposes.
