Water rights: temporary permits: expiration.
Summary
Under existing law, the State Water Resources Control Board administers a water rights program pursuant to which the board grants permits and licenses to appropriate water. Existing law allows a person to apply for, and the board to issue, a temporary permit for diversion and use of water, subject to certain restrictions. Existing law allows a permittee or licensee who has an urgent need to change a point of diversion, place of use, or purpose of use to petition for, and the board to issue, a temporary permit, subject to certain restrictions. Existing law provides that the authorization for a temporary permit automatically expires 180 days after the authorization takes effect, unless an earlier date is specified or the temporary permit is revoked. This bill would extend the time period for the automatic expiration of a temporary permit to 240 days.
