Immigration matters: violations.

Under existing law, a person who for compensation knowingly makes a false or misleading material statement or assertion of fact, in the preparation of an immigration matter, that is detrimentally relied upon by another, is guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment, or by a fine, or both, as specified. Existing law provides that a person injured by that violation may recover the greater of his or her actual damages or $500, and the costs of the suit, including reasonable attorney's fees. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to the latter provision.
