Elder and dependent adult fraud: informational notice.
Summary
Existing law makes it a crime for a person who is not a caretaker to violate specified laws proscribing theft, embezzlement, fraud, or identity theft with respect to the property or identifying information of an elder or dependent adult, as defined, if the person knows or reasonably should know that the person is an elder adult. This bill would require the Department of Justice to develop and distribute an informational notice that warns the public about elder and dependent adult fraud and provides information regarding how and where to file complaints. The bill would also require the notice to be made available on the Internet Web site of the Attorney General.
