Peace officers: community policing: report.

Existing law establishes the Legislative Analyst's Office (LAO) in state government and requires the LAO to perform various duties with regard to the analyses, impacts, and expected costs of proposed legislation. Existing law also creates the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training that, among other things, establishes levels of standards and training for peace officers, as specified. This bill would require the LAO, in consultation with the commission, to conduct a study to determine the effectiveness of community policing and engagement programs, efforts, strategies, and policies in the state, including, but not limited to, police activities leagues, neighborhood watch programs, and integrated policing. The bill would require the LAO and the commission to report the findings with regard to the study to the Legislature on or before December 31, 2018.
