Medi-Cal: prescriptions.

Existing law establishes the Medi-Cal program, administered by the State Department of Health Care Services, under which health care services are provided to qualified, low-income persons. The Medi-Cal program is, in part, governed and funded by federal Medicaid Program provisions. This bill would require the Legislative Analyst's Office to conduct or cause to be conducted a study comparing the purchase or administration of brand name prescription medications through the Medi-Cal program to the purchase or administration of biosimilars through the Medi-Cal program, as specified. The bill would require the study to cover the 2013–14 and 2014–15 fiscal years and to be completed on or before January 1, 2018.
