Urban water management plans.
Summary
Existing law, the Urban Water Management Planning Act, requires every public and private urban water supplier that directly or indirectly provides water for municipal purposes to prepare and adopt an urban water management plan and to update its plan once every 5 years on or before December 31 in years ending in 5 and zero, except as specified. The act requires an urban water supplier to submit to the Department of Water Resources a copy of its plan no later than 30 days after adoption and requires the department to prepare and submit to the Legislature, on or before December 31, in the years ending in 6 and 1, a report summarizing the status of plans adopted pursuant to the act. The act requires each urban water supplier to update and submit its 2015 plan to the department by July 1, 2016. This bill would require each urban water supplier to update and submit its 2020 plan to the department by July 1, 2021, and would require the department to submit the report to the Legislature for the 2015 plans by July 1, 2017, and the report for the 2020 plans by July 1, 2022.
