Building Code: maximum exit access travel distance standard.

The California Building Standards Law requires any building standard adopted or proposed by a state agency to be submitted to, and approved or adopted by, the California Building Standards Commission prior to codification. This bill would make several legislative findings and declarations relating to maximum exit access travel distance regulations in the California Building Code. The bill would require, for buildings that are one story in height and for buildings meeting specified occupancies, the maximum exit access travel distance to be 400 feet where specified requirements are met. The bill would provide that these standards shall remain operative until they are adopted by the commission as part of the California Building Code.
