Insurance Department, insurance fraud, statute of limitations increased, investigators of Department of Insurance Fraud Unit, power of arrest to include other state laws

This bill expands the time limit for prosecuting insurance fraud cases in Alabama from two years to seven years after the fraud is discovered. It also grants investigators within the Department of Insurance's Insurance Fraud Unit broader authority, allowing them to exercise the same arrest and service of process powers as state law enforcement officers for any state law violations found during an investigation. These changes aim to give the department more flexibility in pursuing long-term fraud cases and conducting comprehensive investigations across state lines. The law takes effect on October 1, 2024.
