Municipal officials, requires officials to participate in training

This bill requires mayors and members of municipal governing bodies in Alabama to complete a specific training course before the end of their first elected term starting in 2025. The mandatory course covers twenty topics, including ethics, budgeting, zoning, and legal liabilities, and must consist of at least ten hours of instruction. Officials who have already finished the Certified Municipal Official Program are exempt from this initial requirement. Additionally, the law mandates that these officials complete five hours of continuing education annually on related subjects. All costs for the training, including travel and lodging, must be paid for by the municipality's general fund.
