Wyoming's HB 149 increases penalties for drivers who flee accidents involving serious injury or death. It classifies failing to stop after an accident causing death or "serious bodily injury" (as defined in state law) as a felony, punishable by up to five years in prison or a $50,000 fine, while lesser injuries remain misdemeanors (up to one year jail or $5,000 fine). The bill also adds a requirement that offenders must have knowingly been involved in the accident. This law applies to all motor vehicle accidents occurring on or after July 1, 2024.
