Added a new effective date of July 1, 2027 for expanded prescription monitoring requirements that will require prescribers to check the Prescription Monitoring Program for benzodiazepines and opiates prescribed for more than 90 consecutive days, in addition to the existing requirement for opioids prescribed for more than seven consecutive days.

The expanded requirements will apply to benzodiazepines and opiates (not just opioids) when treatment is expected to last more than 90 consecutive days, requiring prescribers to check for other covered substances and overdose history before prescribing.

New exemptions were added for prescribers treating patients with low-abuse potential benzodiazepines or opiates, and for pain management related to dialysis or cancer treatments.

The bill text includes formatting changes from the enrolled version to the chaptered version, including added chapter number, approval date, and page numbering, but these are administrative rather than substantive policy changes.
