Summary
Department of Education; survey; excess fooddonation; best practices. Requires the Department of Educationto survey each school board to determine (i) whether it has an existingpolicy or practice relating to the donation of excess food, as thatterm is defined in relevant law, from public elementary or secondaryschools in the local school division to local food banks or sheltersthat serve meals or otherwise provide food to individuals in needand (ii) if so, how such policy or practice is implemented and theimpact that it has on the local community. The bill requires theDepartment of Education, after completing such survey, to compilein a guidance document or Superintendent's Memo and distribute toeach school board a list of resources and best practices on the subjectof excess food donation.
