Study; Virginia Freedom of Information AdvisoryCouncil; charges for the production of public records; report. Directs the Virginia Freedom of Information Advisory Council (FOIACouncil) to study whether the provisions of the Virginia Freedomof Information Act (FOIA) allowing public bodies to charge requestersfor the production of public records should be amended to make accessto public records easier for requesters. The study further directsthe FOIA Council to examine the current FOIA provisions on chargesand make recommendations on ways to amend such provisions to makethe assessment of charges by public bodies for the production ofpublic records more uniform, more transparent, easier to understand, and less costly. The study directs the FOIA Council to consider commentsfrom and seek participation in the study by citizens of the Commonwealth,representatives of state and local government entities, broadcast,print, and electronic media sources, open government organizations, and other interested parties.
