Summary
Assault and battery; penalty. Increasesthe penalty for committing an assault or an assault and battery againsta judge; magistrate; law-enforcement officer; correctional officer; person directly involved in the care, treatment, or supervision ofinmates; firefighter; or volunteer firefighter or any emergency medicalservices personnel from a Class 6 felony with a mandatory term ofconfinement of six months to a Class 5 felony with a mandatory termof confinement of one year. The bill also provides that if such violationoccurs during a state of emergency then such person is guilty of a Class 3 felony with a mandatory term of confinement of two years.
