Help Grandfamilies Prevent Child Abuse Act

The Help Grandfamilies Prevent Child Abuse Act updates the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act to better support children raised by relatives or close family friends outside the foster care system. It requires states receiving federal grants to prioritize placing children with kin, license relatives as foster parents, and create community networks to assist these families. The bill also mandates that state programs include specific training for kinship caregivers on handling behavioral challenges, substance use disorders, and trauma. Additionally, it expands the advisory board and national information clearinghouse to include organizations serving kinship families and the perspectives of birth parents and former foster youth.
