National Diabetes Project Act

The National Diabetes Project Act establishes a new initiative within the Department of Health and Human Services to create a unified national strategy for combating diabetes. This project aims to accelerate the development of treatments, improve early diagnosis and care coordination, and ensure that research includes diverse populations at higher risk for the disease. To guide these efforts, the bill creates an advisory council composed of federal agency representatives and non-federal experts, including patient advocates and researchers, who will meet quarterly to provide advice and submit annual reports to Congress. The legislation also mandates that various federal agencies share diabetes-related data to support these evaluations and requires the project to produce an updated national plan each year. The initiative is set to expire on December 31, 2036, unless extended by Congress.
